Aristotle
The first all-in-one, voice-controlled smart baby monitor that grows with your child.
—
Overview
Aristotle* was an innovative smart baby device that integrated essential functions such as a baby monitor, Bluetooth speaker, smart LED light, Wi-Fi HD camera, and a sound machine. Its companion app offered a comprehensive suite of features tailored to simplify the lives of parents, including advanced baby monitoring, customizable lighting, soothing sounds & lullabies, baby activity tracking, music, and automation recipes. Aristotle featured both voice and app interfaces that worked harmoniously with the hardware, creating a first-of-its-kind interactive product experience.
Contribution
I led a multidisciplinary team consisting of UX and UI designers, as well as an illustrator in developing the Aristotle app, from the initial setup to various mini-app functionalities. This included conceptualizing wireframes, overseeing UI design, and ensuring a seamless user journey. Additionally, I collaborated with product design and engineering teams to define the voice UI and enhance interaction with the hub light, prioritizing user-centered design principles. Defining Voice UI, App and Interactive Hub Experience
Challenge:
Aristotle presented a unique challenge that exceeded traditional app design expectations. It wasn't solely about creating an app; it was about crafting an immersive experience that seamlessly integrated interactions among the app, voice interface, and the physical hub. This challenge included overcoming the hurdle of users being unaccustomed to conversing with an inanimate device, given that the category was novel.
Solution:
I started the project by creating mini app experiences as the initial step. Building on this foundation, I developed the voice UI interface. Drawing on my experience as a new mom and insights gained through user interviews with other moms, I envisioned scenarios that new parents would appreciate being able to control hands-free. Collaborating with a copywriter, I refined the voice interface further and created responses tailored to user needs.
Additionally, to enhance interaction with the hub and provide intuitive "body language" cues, I integrated its light and sound functions to convey responses, thereby facilitating a more natural and engaging user experience.

Simplify Product Set Up
Challenge:
Users often find the initial setup of a product to be a burdensome task. This challenge is amplified with Aristotle's setup, which involves both creating an account and pairing two hardware products, making the out-of-the-box experience particularly demanding for users.
Solution:
We divided the initial setup into three sections: account creation, hub setup, and camera setup, providing a clear path for users. A progress bar visually tracked their progress through these stages. Utilizing illustrated visuals along with animations and minimal copy, we guided users through each step, simplifying complex concepts while keeping them engaged. Thus making the setup process more intuitive and enjoyable. Additionally, the devices themselves incorporated light and sound cues to assist users during the initial setup process.
